Local nonprofit starts shoe drive for Joplin kids

After receiving a late-night call for help from Missouri on Monday, a local nonprofit group quickly put together a relief effort to aid tornado victims in Joplin.

She said volunteer Bryce Stuckenschneider received a phone call from his friend, Missouri state Sen. Mike Kehoe, asking if the group could bring shoes and socks for kids in Joplin.

“We are just a little Dayton nonprofit, and we get this sweet opportunity to help,” Horlacher said.

Horlacher called area shoe stores to see if they could help, and Roderer Shoe Center at Town & Country Shopping Center agreed to donate $6,000 in children’s shoes. “It just seemed like a good opportunity and the thing to do,” owner Marty Roderer said.
