Guys slip into heels to make a point for YWCA

Hairy legs and high heels rarely go together, but they were a welcome sight Wednesday for the YWCA of Silicon Valley's Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event.

The ninth annual fundraiser for the YWCA's Rape Crisis Center is a lighthearted way to raise awareness among men about sexual assault. More than 200 guys preregistered to walk and even more showed up for the start at Plaza de Cesar Chavez.

"We are doing a humorous thing, but it's a serious issue," said Keri McLain, chief executive of YWCA of Silicon Valley.

She's right on both counts. According to the YWCA, more than 95 percent of sexual assaults are committed by men, so it's a message that men need to be getting.

And it was indeed humorous.
